Health Unit reports measles case in Simcoe County

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has confirmed a case of measles in a resident of Simcoe Muskoka who hasn't recently traveled or had contact with a known case.

The public may have been exposed at several locations in Simcoe County in March. The health unit says those potentially exposed should contact them and check their vaccination status.

Symptoms of measles include fever, runny nose, cough, and a red rash. Individuals are urged to stay home if symptomatic and seek medical advice.

Measles is highly contagious, but the risk is lower for those vaccinated. Complications can arise, especially for infants, pregnant women, and the immunocompromised.

The health unit recommends staying up to date with vaccinations and remaining vigilant for symptoms.
