The Morning Rant

The big banks, the backbone and structure of Canada. One of the few conglomerates that post billions of earnings each quarter. We cannot live without them, and we are under their wing with no say at all. RBC apparently knew of the discrepancies with Earl Jones who was using his personal account for business, and passing it off as an in-trust account. To make a long story short, Jones sucked about $50 million from clients in the fraud. Now RBC is being sued by victims of Earl Jones.

Just a bump in the road for Canada's largest bank. When you present a cheque to a banking institution for a domestic bulk collection in the amount of $210-, and they are successful in retrieving the monies but charge you $71- to do so, where is the justice. Let's see $210- owing but only receive $139-. Just plain nasty!!!

Colonial Mexico
by: David Harris
Mexico has a quite a number of old colonial cities that stand in testament to the fact that this is the richest and deepest cultured country in the Western Hemisphere.  Cities that still have remnants of their beginnings,  many dating from the 1,500's.

We have visited three magnificent cities so far on our trip: San Miguel, Queretero and Guanajuato.  All are near by and only a few hours northwest of Mexico City.  If you have the chance, visit them before they are overrun with 21st century values.  Their awe comes from great architects, timeless planning and construction that was only made possible because of a labour force of virtual slaves.

Cage Match - You decide who wins!

Cage Match

Craig Martin v Jeff Carter
Two men in boxing trunks. One has a tattoo, the other no hair. Of approx. the same height and weight, but definitely not welter weights. So it’s a fair match.
Listen to them joust over topics of interest each week. You decide who wins. Read or listen to their arguments and make a comment if you wish.
Round 1: Michael Jackson
Winner: Jeff Carter

Round 2: Tiger Woods
Craig: Ok, here we are again, celebrity laundry dominating the media.  Tiger Woods and the mess he's in.  And before Carter utters a word, lets just get some stuff straight.  If you want the money.. if you want the notoriety, if you want the lifestyle..you get everything that goes along with it.
I have no sympathy for Tiger Woods.  Not that I am being judgmental, but if you're going to be grabbing $90 million dollars a year or more..in endorsements alone..have your face plastered on television screens 50 times a day hawking whatever you've sold yourself to..and then to be that stupid you get what you get. period.
You know why? cuz people want to know.  And they have a right to know.  If I'm paying $20 for two dollar razor blades because they have some celebrity "endorsing" them, I paid for that guy.  And I paid for the right to know what the heck he is up to.  And I, like the millions of others who pay for these clowns will settle for nothing less.  And the vultures circle.  Step outta line.. And you're off the pedestal.  And kiss the money good-bye.  The way it should be. Period.

Jeff:  First let me state that I clearly won Round 1 about Michael Jackson.
Now about the whole sordid affair with Tiger Woods, pardon the pun.
You are almost correct when you say as a purchaser of razor blades you own Mr. Woods.  I would agree that if he had done something in the midst of everyday public life, like maybe punching someone, or getting arrested for doing drugs, then we deserve to know all about it.
In fact he did have an accident which is what we should know.  Its okay to know that there is some marital tension in his life, but thats as far as it should go.
And I'm not talking about just him, but everyone should have the right to have their private lives left private.
All of the stories that are coming out about him may or may not be true.  The fact is that whether he made bad judgment call or not, this is his private life, not yours.
We all make mistakes, and the damage is done.  I'm sure that if this happened to you Craig, you wouldn't like to be the laughing stock of Huntsville, never mind the whole world.  How devastating would that be if it happened to you?
The sad thing is, that the media loves to see this stuff happen.  It sells papers.  And its human nature.  They just love to bring down someone big.  Watch out Oprah.
And while being a superstar does skew your perception of reality, you still deserve privacy with things that go on behind closed doors.  We all do.
